  1. What are Certified Distributions from Lucid Imagination?

    Lucid Imagination offers freely available, commercially supported distributions of Apache Lucene and Apache Solr that include the most recent stable version of the base projects, additional bug fixes, performance enhancements, and components. Both offerings have been through additional comprehensive testing by Lucid's Quality Assurance team. The comprehensive Lucene distribution is referred to as LucidWorks for Lucene by Lucid Imagination, and the Solr distributions are referred to as LucidWorks for Solr by Lucid Imagination.

  2. What bug fixes are included in LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr?

    To ensure that important bug fixes are delivered to our customers in a timely fashion, we back-port certain patches from Lucene/Solr to our Certified Distributions. Patches may be back-ported from an unreleased version of Lucene/Solr, or from different released versions (e.g. backporting a fix from a hypothetical future Solr 1.8 for inclusion in an older, but still supported LucidWorks for Solr 1.3).

    Bug fixes originally authored by Lucid are also contributed back to Lucene/Solr.

  3. What are the differences between Apache Lucene and LucidWorks for Lucene?

    LucidWorks for Lucene is Lucid's commercially supported distribution of Apache Lucene. It is based on the latest stable distribution of Apache Lucene in addition to some useful addons such as Luke and Lucid's KStemmer.

  4. What are the differences between Apache Solr and LucidWorks for Solr?

    LucidWorks for Solr is Lucid's commercially supported distribution of Apache Solr. It is based on the latest stable version of Apache Solr, and includes some additional features such as a Tomcat based server, Lucid's KStemmer, the LucidGaze for Solr monitoring tool, and platform specific packages containing dependencies such as the JRE.

  5. Do I have to pay for LucidWorks for Lucene or LucidWorks for Solr?

    No. LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr are open source and free.

  6. Under what license are LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr are distributed?

    LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr are distributed under the same licenses as Lucene and Solr (primarily the Apache License v2). Certain Lucid specific components such as LucidGaze for Solr and LucidKStemmer are distributed under the LGPL v2.1.

  7. Do I have to have a support contract with Lucid Imagination in order to use LucidWorks for Lucene or LucidWorks for Solr?

    No. A support contract or any other business engagement with Lucid Imagination is not mandatory in order to download, develop and use LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr. However, Lucid Imagination offers extensive support services and professional services in order to accelerate your Lucene and Solr search experience and maximize your success.

  8. What are the advantages of using LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr?

    Lucid Imagination is constantly updating the LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr software packages as enhancements and bug fixes are made to the Apache Lucene and Apache Solr projects and contrib. modules. In addition, by including software components such as LucidGaze for Solr, LucidKStemmer and Luke, LucidWorks for Lucene and LucidWorks for Solr provide an excellent starting point by eliminating dependency issues and allowing users to quickly develop and deploy search capabilities into their applications.

    Users that register, download, and use LucidWorks for Lucene and/or LucidWorks for Solr will also be notified when updates and upgrades become available along with documentation on the significant changes in each release.

    For those developers that have subscribed to one of the support subscriptions offered by Lucid, not only will they be notified of new releases, but they will have timely access to Lucid Imagination’s Lucene and Solr domain experts to help them resolve any issues they may encounter as they develop and deploy their applications.
