		<description>As far as I know, PyLucene is not a &quot;port&quot; of Lucene (which would imply reimplementing Lucene in Python), it&#039;s a Python wrapper for the Java code. Hopefully someone will pick up the project now that it&#039;s an Apache project, because it&#039;s never really worked for me whenever I tried it...</description>

Thanks for the nice write-up of all the projects. I&#039;ve been particularly amazed by the amount of newsgroup traffic for Solr - it feels like it&#039;s hit critical mass in enterprise search, for many cases where an out-of-the-box commercial solution isn&#039;t the best option.

Re Tika, I think a 1.0 release would probably be happening in 2010, not 2009, as there&#039;s not a lot of time left in this year :)

As for why people use Lucene, I think you&#039;re right that flexibility is critical. It certainly was one of the key factors at Krugle when we were deciding which IR engine to use.
